FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – The Embry-Riddle women's lacrosse team kicked off the 2020 season in style on Saturday, picking up a 23-4 victory at Emmanuel College. A total of 10 different Eagles had multiple-point efforts, led by
McKenzie Jackson and
Mya Watson.
Jackson totaled six points with five goals and an assist, while Watson also had six points on four goals and two assists.
Zariah Durham tallied three goals and an assist in her collegiate debut, while
Tori Lammes added two goals and two assists.
Elizabeth Ninesling had a pair of goals and an assist, while
Meg Jourden and
Carson Toney both scored two goals and
Hannah Frund added two assists.
Ellie Dailey and
Paige Jones both recorded a goal and an assist in their collegiate debuts as well, with Dailey also leading the team with a game-high eight draw controls.
Stela Chepenik led the team with three ground balls, while
Mary Catherine Kreider got the win in goal, stopping two of the three shots she faced.
Embry-Riddle wasted no time getting on the board as Watson netted the first goal of the game just 41 seconds in, and Ninesling followed with another goal just 12 seconds later to make it 2-0 Eagles before the first minute had transpired. Less than three minutes later the lead was 5-0 after Ninesling scored again and Durham got her first two goals of the day. Just over seven minutes into the contest the Eagle lead was 8-0 as Durham, Lammes, and Jackson all scored within a 53-second span. Toney's first goal at the 16:54 mark increased the margin to 10-0, and she notched her second goal with 12:06 to play in the half to make it 11-1. ERAU maintained a double-digit lead for the rest of the game, extending it to 17-1 at the half.
Jourden's second goal of the game opened the scoring in the second half, and just over 10 minutes into the period a goal from Watson pushed the lead to 20 at 22-2. Both offenses went quiet over the final 19:20 of the game, with just three total goals scored in that time frame, as the Eagles cruised to a 23-4 win.
The Eagles will face a tough test next week as they continue their season-opening three-game road trip with a visit to Charlotte, North Carolina to take on fifth-ranked Queens on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 1 p.m.
