ERAU Men Find Success in Track Events on First Day of South Carolina Invitational

Shaun Bullock
COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Embry-Riddle men's track and field team had nine individuals set personal records on the first day of the South Carolina Invitational on Friday. All of Friday's top performances for the Eagles came on the track at the Carolina Indoor Track & Field Complex where the Eagles are competing for the third time this indoor season.

In the first event of the day - the 60m dash – both Will Moten and Jahi Deloatch improved on their personal best times as Moten crossed the line in an ERAU season-best 7.09 seconds, while Deloatch finished in 7.52.

Connor Guinn was the next Eagle to set a personal record as he finished the 60m hurdles in 8.56 seconds.

The 400m event saw four Eagle sprinters set personal records. Bradon Black and Darrell Thomas both posted the first sub-50-second times of their careers with Black finishing in 49.89 seconds and Thomas crossing in 49.92 seconds. Johnathan Washington improved on the time he set last week with a time of 50.22 seconds, and Bryce Walker finished in 51.21 seconds.

Racing in the one mile run for the third time this season, Ryan Szklany shaved three seconds of his previous PR with a time of 4:19.99.

The final event of the day saw Shaun Bullock turn in the Eagles' only top-5 finish. The junior crossed the line in 8:34.50 which was good for fourth place and bettered his previous personal best by nine seconds.

"It was a great day all around for everyone competing," ERAU Head Coach Mike Rosolino said. "We had a high percentage of people who hit personal bests today. It was exciting to see that improvement and competitiveness. We are building a great foundation for the outdoor season and hope to get some to indoor nationals."

Competition resumes at 10 a.m. on Saturday with the 5,000m run, high jump and pole vault.
