DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The 24th-ranked Embry-Riddle men's tennis team earned its fourth shutout of the season with a 7-0 defeat of Davis & Elkins at the Crotty Tennis Complex on Tuesday. The Eagles are now 5-1 on the year, while the Senators fall to 1-6 overall.
The Eagles wrapped up a sweep of doubles in just 34 minutes to take a 1-0 lead into singles play.
Alexis Guedy and
Lucas Bos were the first to notch a point for the Blue and Gold as they dispatched Jacob Bowman and Andrew Shand 6-1 at the second spot. The doubles clincher came at the third spot where Fernando Alsonso and
Andrej Omeragic downed Cody Turner and Hussain Hamide 6-3.
Playing at No. 1 doubles, the duo of
Juan Ortiz Couder and
Andres Donayre had to come from behind to top Alejandro Messeguer and Obert Mulyadi.
Playing at the fifth singles spot, Omeragic blanked Bowman 6-0, 6-0 to put the Eagles up 2-0. Next off the court was Guedy who registered a 6-2, 6-1 win over Mulyadi in his first match at the top spot this season.
Bos also moved up in the Eagle lineup on Tuesday and his first match at the second position resulted in a 6-3, 6-2 victory for the junior over Meseguer to score the clincher.
Following
Tim Loerwink's 6-2, 6-1 defeat of Bowman on court five, Alonso pulled out a three-setter (3-6, 6-2, 6-1) against Shand on court three, and Rohweder closed out the scoring for the Blue and Gold with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Turner at No. 6.
The Eagles will be back in action at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday to host Wayne State at the Crotty Tennis Complex.
