Women’s Soccer Falls in Overtime to Barry, 2-1

Saba Amiri scored the Eagles' lone goal against Barry
MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's soccer team suffered its second Sunshine State Conference loss of the season on Saturday. Playing in their second overtime game of the season, the Eagles (4-3, 2-2) scored first, but were unable hold Barry (4-3-1, 1-1-1) at bay, falling 2-1 to the Buccaneers on the road.

In the first half, the Eagles controlled most of the possession, but it was Barry who was the more dangerous side on offense with a 5-2 shot advantage, including a pair of strikes that elicited diving saves by ERAU goalkeeper Oona Jokinen.

The Eagles began to threaten Maddie Hart-Pomerantz's goal to start the second, outshooting the Buccaneers 4-1 in the first seven minutes of the frame. On two occasions, Marie Myhrvold Seim was able to get in behind the Barry defense, but both of her attempts whistled just past the frame.

The Eagles finally capitalized when Grace Foyer dispossessed a Barry midfielder on the right flank and played a ball into Myhrvold Seim. Myhrvold Seim spun just in time to find Saba Amiri on the run and Amiri's left-footed shot put the Eagles in front, 1-0, with 33:16 left in the game.

The lead was short-lived, however, as Barry tied the score three minutes later via a long-range shot by Drew Dempsey.

Both teams combined for 19 shots in the second half, but neither side could add a goal to its tally, sending the game into overtime.

The first 10 minutes of overtime saw the Eagles dominate in shots once again, including an Allie McMandon strike that was turned back by Hart-Pomerantz. But ERAU was unable find the final touch that would result in a goal and the game went to a second overtime period.

At the 101:18 mark, Tash Hudson, ran onto a ball in the middle of the pitch and slotted a low shot past Jokinen to give the Buccaneers the win.

Jokinen finished with four saves, while Hart-Pomerantz had nine stops for the Buccaneers.

"Credit to the Barry team for finding a way to get the result tonight," ERAU Head Coach Samantha Bohon said. "I told our team this is what it's like in our conference. Every game's margin for error is so small and we have to put teams away when we create the opportunities. I thought we had some really good stretches of play. Once we scored, I felt we were finally going to start finishing our chances as we had 6-7 really good looks at goal up to that point. Barry is a good team and you can't take 18 shots with many inside the box and only finish one. Their tying goal was a great strike and it killed our momentum a bit. Hudson makes a good individual play in the second overtime and punishes us for leaving the door open. So, it'll be a rough bus ride home, but we'll regroup tomorrow and keep fighting."

The Eagles' next game will be at 7 p.m. on Wednesday when they host second-ranked Flagler at the Embry-Riddle Soccer Stadium.
