Men’s Tennis Falls to Barry in SSC Semis

Alexis Guedy
MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle men's tennis team suffered a tough loss to Barry on Thursday. The Blue and Gold were seeded fourth in the Sunshine State Conference Tournament and fell to top seed Barry 4-1 in the tournament semifinals. Barry remains undefeated at 7-0, while the Eagles evened their record at 4-4.

Due to the threat of inclement weather, both teams agreed to use the Intercollegiate Tennis Association alternate format by playing singles first. The second-ranked Buccaneers got the four singles wins they needed to advance to the tournament championship.

Barry claimed a 2-0 advantage by picking up wins at No. 1 and No. 5 singles. Playing at the No. 3 spot in the Eagle lineup, Alexis Guedy got a point back for the Eagles when he defeated Alejandro Gallego 6-2, 6-2.

On court two, Alejandro Palacios took the first set against Andres Donayre 6-3 and held off a strong challenge by Donayre in the second set, coming from behind to win 7-5 and increase the Barry lead to 3-1.

At the fourth spot, ERAU's Lucas Bos won his first set 6-3, but Arnau Rodriguez took the second set 6-3 and rode that momentum to a 6-3 win in the third to clinch the victory for the Bucs.

The Eagles will take on third-seeded Lynn in Boca Raton, Florida, in the third-place match on Sunday at a time to be determined.

The 2021 ERAU men's tennis season is presented by Marco's Pizza.
