Join us every Wednesday on erauathletics.com as we take a moment to remember and recognize each of our conference & national championships.

Embry-Riddle's first individual national title in men's track & field came during the 2011 indoor track & field season, when Sam Vazquez took home the 1000m title at the NAIA Indoor National Championships.

Vazquez, in his senior season, won his semifinal heat in 2:27.35, which set a school record and was fast enough to advance to the finals. In the finals, Vazquez blew the field away, running a 2:24.61 to lower his school-record time and finish nearly three seconds ahead of the runner-up. He also earned All-American honors in the 4x400m relay at the same national meet, helping the team to a total score of 20 points to finish 12th, the third-best finish at the indoor national meet in program history.

Check back next week when we look back at the 2009 baseball season.
