DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Embry-Riddle seniors
Elijah Jenkins and
Nikki Tucker were named to the Academic All-America rosters for men's and women's basketball, respectively, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced on Thursday. Tucker was named to the Division II Academic All-America first team, while Jenkins garnered second team honors.
The CoSIDA Academic All-District teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. Due to the variety in games played across conferences and across divisions in college athletics in 2020-21, the CoSIDA Academic All-America contests for were based on career statistics rather than statistics for the current season.
A native of Marshall, Michigan, Tucker holds the distinction of being the first ERAU Women's Basketball student-athlete to earn Academic All-America honors. Tucker has competed for the Blue and Gold for three seasons, starting all 87 of the Eagles' contests during that time. She has averaged 13.2 points, 6.4 rebounds and 2.6 assists in 31.6 minutes per game and is 36.9 percent from long range and 74.3 from the free throw line for her career. Tucker ranks second in scoring (1,150 pts) and second in rebounding on ERAU's career lists, and holds the single-game scoring record of 38 points, which she tallied against West Liberty on Nov. 24, 2018.
Tucker boasts a 4.0 GPA in Aerospace Physiology and has been named to the SSC Commissioner's Honor Roll each of the past three seasons. She is also a three-time CoSIDA Academic All-District selection and was an ERAU Athletics Eagles of Excellence Scholarship award winner in 2018-19. In 2019-20, Tucker was awarded the prestigious Steve & Vicky Ridder scholarship and was recognized by the Department of Human Factors and Behavioral Neurology as the recipient of the Aerospace Physiology Outstanding Academic Achievement Award.
While at Embry-Riddle, Tucker has made her impact felt in the community in a number of ways, including working with the Special Olympics and serving as a member of the Autism Advocacy Network. She has also taken the time to volunteer at local elementary schools as well as schools in Costa Rica during a team trip, and was recently presented ERAU Women's Basketball's Campus & Community Service award.
A senior and team captain from Atlanta, Georgia Jenkins is the first two-time CoSIDA Academic All-American ERAU men's basketball history.
Majoring in Mechanical Engineering and carrying minors in Computer Science and Applied Mathematics, Jenkins boasts a 3.97 grade point average, and is one of just four NCAA II men's basketball players majoring in an engineering program to earn All-District honors. He owns the highest undergraduate GPA of any of this year's honorees.
A two-time NABC Honors Court awardee and three-time Sunshine State Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll recipient, Jenkins is no stranger to academic accolades and has distinguished himself as one of the most decorated ERAU men's basketball players in program history.
A three-year starter for the Blue and Gold, Jenkins has averaged 28.2 minutes per game over his collegiate career, shooting 42 percent from the field, 40 percent from three-point land, and 79 percent from the free throw line. He has averaged 9.2 points and 2.3 assists over 86 career contests, and he ranks seventh all-time with 196 made three-point field goals.
