Women’s Rowing Places Fourth at NCAA Championships

SARASOTA, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's rowing team competed in a pair of repechage races on Saturday morning at Nathan Benderson Park, placing second in both. With the results, ERAU finished fourth overall at the NCAA II Championship regatta.
 
Both races saw the Blue and Gold face off against SSC foe Florida Tech. The Varsity Eight boat, featuring Megan Byrne, Shelby Ernst, Irina Djurovic, Sofia Lorenzini, Bethany Thompson, Gwendolyn Powell, Kendra Sander, Elise Dezotell, and Kristen Vigna clocked a time of 7:00.618, finishing 10 seconds back of the Panthers' time of 6:50.586.
 
In the Varsity Four race, the Embry-Riddle boat consisting of Kathryn Chilelli, Naomi Brooks, Rebecca McBride, Veronika Zdrazil, and Lauren Stollenwerk maintained contact with the Florida Tech boat for basically the entire race. The Panthers held just a 1.5 second lead at the 500m mark and were only four seconds ahead at the 1000m and 1500m marks, but Florida Tech held on for the victory in 7:52.279, ahead of ERAU's time of 7:57.961.
