Join us every Wednesday on erauathletics.com as we take a moment to remember and recognize each of our conference & national championships.
Embry-Riddle's most recent individual national champion in men's track & field was Mike Edwards, who captured two titles in 2013. Edwards took home the high jump crown at the NAIA Indoor National Championships and won the same event at the NAIA Outdoor National Championships a couple of months later.
Edwards, a senior who transferred to Embry-Riddle after competing for one season at Alabama and two seasons at Louisville, won the indoor high jump championship with a jump of 2.18m. That was the highest mark recorded at the NAIA Indoor National Championships in seven years, and it also still stands as ERAU's program record for the indoor high jump.
Nearly three months later, Edwards duplicated his feat by capturing the high jump title at the NAIA Outdoor National Championships. He posted a height of 2.16m to win the event, which also set a school record that remains to this day; he also narrowly missed clearing 2.22m, which would have tied the meet record at the outdoor championships.
Edwards completed his one-year career at Embry-Riddle as the program's lone two-time national champion.
