DAYTONA BEACH, Florida - A trio of Embry-Riddle basketball student-athletes were named to the 2021-22 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District listing on Thursday.
Nikki Tucker of the women's basketball team, and both
Elijah Jenkins, and
Romeo Crouch of the men's basketball program earned the honor the seeks to recognize the premier student-athletes in college athletics that excel both in the classroom and in their respective sports.
Embry-Riddle's three selections were the most of any NCAA II South Region school.
A native of Marshall, Michigan, Tucker is making her fourth appearance on the Academic All-District listing. A four-year starter for the Blue and Gold, she has established herself as one of the best to ever wear the Eagle uniform. After becoming the fourth ERAU Women's Basketball student-athlete to join the 1,000-point club, Tucker became program's all-time leading scorer with 24 points against Palm Beach Atlantic on Feb. 12, and currently has 1,425 career points.
Tucker also vaulted to the top of the Eagles' rebounding list and currently boasts 716 boards, becoming the 11
th ERAU player, male or female, to cross the 700-rebound threshold. In addition to holding the scoring and rebound records for ERAU, Tucker ranks in the Eagles' career top five in field goals made (1
st, 517), free throws made (1
st, 245), assists (2
nd, 294) and steals (2
nd, 190). She also holds the single-game scoring record of 38 points, which she tallied against West Liberty on Nov. 24, 2018.
Tucker boasts a 4.0 GPA in Aerospace Physiology and has been named to the SSC Commissioner's Honor Roll each of the past four seasons. She was a three-time recipient of the ERAU Athletics Eagles of Excellence Scholarship and in 2019-20, she was awarded the prestigious Steve & Vicky Ridder scholarship. Tucker was also recognized by the Department of Human Factors and Behavioral Neurology as the recipient of the Aerospace Physiology Outstanding Academic Achievement Award.
While at Embry-Riddle, Tucker has made her impact felt in the community in a number of ways, including working with the Special Olympics and serving as a member of the Autism Advocacy Network. She has also taken the time to volunteer at local elementary schools as well as schools in Costa Rica during a team trip and was presented ERAU Women's Basketball's Campus & Community Service award.
Jenkins, a senior guard out of Atlanta, will be remembered as one of the best scholar-athletes in ERAU Athletic Department history, and one of the most decorates players in Eagle Men's Basketball program history. Jenkins carries a 4.0 GPA in his pursuit of a Master's degree in mechanical engineering after graduating in 2020 with a 3.98 undergrad GPA in his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. He is the first two-time CoSIDA Academic All-American under
Steve Ridder, and this marks his third All-District selection.
On the court, Jenkins has proven to be one of the best deep threat shooters to wear the Blue and Gold, connecting on 278 three-pointers over his four seasons, good for fourth all-time. His 1,189 points are the 22nd most in program history, while his 44-point outburst in ERAU's win over Alabama-Huntsville earlier this year broke the school record for points in a game.
Jenkins is a four-time SSC Commissioner's Honor Roll recipient, a three-time NABC Honors Court awardee, received the D2 ADA Academic Achievement Award in 2020-21, and has also earned the Eagles of Excellence Award, and the Steve and Vicky Ridder Transformational Scholarship.
In 2020, Jenkins was named the Embry-Riddle Athletics Male Student-Athlete of the Year, and in the summer of 2021, became the first Eagle, and first male African-American winner of the Sunshine State Scholar-Athlete of the Year honor.
A fixture on the Embry-Riddle College of Engineering Dean's List, Jenkins was named the 2021 ERAU College of Engineering Outstanding Undergraduate Student and was part of the Solar Studz team that won first place in the Solar District Cup, a competition run by the U.S. Department of Energy's National Renewable Energy Laboratory that challenges students to design and model optimized energy systems by integrating such technologies as solar energy and storage for a campus or urban district. He has interned with Boeing's Commercial Aircraft Division and with Carrier Corporation in the Commercial Engineering Department.
Jenkins is also active on campus and in the community. He helped initiate the Eagle Study Connection, which is a service to help student-athletes receive help with academics, including one-on-on tutoring with study mentors, and was selected to be the student-athlete speaker at an event for Food Brings Hope. He has participated in numerous clean-up programs within the Daytona Beach Community and has volunteered with Bike for Multiple Sclerosis, Children's Miracle Network Dance Marathon Fundraiser and the American Heart Association Heart Walk.
Crouch's exploits on the court are well known to Eagle fans, as the Titusville, Florida native has rewritten the ERAU record books in his two seasons with the Blue and Gold. Crouch carries a 3.35 GPA in Business Administration, and this is the first CoSIDA Academic All-District honor of his career.
A 2020-21 Preseason All-American, Crouch was the 2019-20 SSC Newcomer of the Year and earned a spot on the All-Newcomer Team, All-SSC roster, and is a five-time SSC Player of the Week. Crouch has twice been named to the NABC Honors Court, and was named to the SSC Commissioner's Honor Roll last year.
He became the fastest Eagle ever to reach 1,000 points when he did so in January, and his 19.5 ppg career mark is the best in ERAU history. He also ranks third in Eagle history with 5.5 assists per game, and second with 2.7 steals per game.
In his Blue and Gold career, Crouch has scored 1,090 points, connected on 191 triples, pulled down 255 rebounds, dished out 306 assists, and registered 143 steals.
The trio of Eagles will advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot, and the winners are set to be announced on March 15.
