LAKELAND, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle men's golf team fought through cold temperatures and light rain to finish tied for 14th with Eckerd at the Matlock Invitational, which was held at the par-72, 7,090-yard Lone Palm Golf Club.
 
The Eagles (311-304-306=921) found success on the par-5s with an 11-below par score on such holes, partly due to the 540-yard hole No. 11 (-6).
 
After the first day of action, Pablo Robles (77-75-74=226) led the squad and later tied for the lowest score on the team at the conclusion of play, a first for the freshman this year.
 
Ian Aldarondo (78-75-73=226) matched Robles' 226 thanks to his improvement as the competition progressed. His 73 strokes in final round were the fewest needed to complete 18 holes by a member of the Blue and Gold during the tournament. Additionally, the senior tied for the third-most par in the 75-player field.
 
John Triplett (79-76-79=234) accumulated the most birdies on the team with eight, including two on the first three holes of the tournament.
 
Michael Faringer (77-78-82=237) started hot as the junior was even with Robles for the team lead after the first round due to a 77 on the opening 18 holes.
 
Beau Coenraad (86-82-80=248) competed in his first tournament of the season for Embry-Riddle and improved his score as the rounds went on. He also was the only Eagle to record an eagle as he needed only three swings of the club to finish the par-5 hole No. 2.
 
No. 1 Barry (288-269-290=847) finished at the top of the leaderboard by three strokes over Florida Southern (280-279-291=850). Nova Southeastern (286-283-282=851) passed West Florida (284-284-291=859) for third and Columbus State (287-288-299=874) capped off the top-5.
 
Barry's A.J. Ewart was the top individual with a 12-under-par 204.
 
A two-week break is in store for Embry-Riddle before traveling to Saint Leo, Florida, for the Saint Leo Invitational from Feb. 21-22. The 2021-22 Embry-Riddle Men's Golf season is presented by Tijuana Flats.
