ORLANDO, Fla. –
Sophia Gustely had one of the best single-day performances of her Embry-Riddle career on Friday. At the Black and Gold Invitational, Gustely followed a personal best in the discus with a provisional qualifying mark in the javelin to headline the Eagles' performances on the first day of the two-day meet hosted by the University of Central Florida.
In her first event of the day, Gustely hurled the discus 43.39m (142-4), which was over a meter better that the personal record she set one month ago. Her throw of 41.98m (137-8) in the javelin was not only a PR and ERAU record for Gustely, but it also met the NCAA II provisional qualifying standard and was good for a fourth-place finish.
Ta'Leah Adams also had a PR in the discus with a throw of 38.44m (126-1), while
Madison Morris had the best javelin throw of her career with a 32.37 (106-2).
On the track
Laura McBride had a personal best 1:05.18 in the 400m hurdles, while
Shenya Patrice posted a PR of 25.05 in the 200m.
The final race of the day was the 1500m run and that event yielded personal bests for
Anna Miller (4:55.17),
Grayson Iller (4:58.53) and
Brianna Grotzinger (5:15.04).
Competing at the IMG Academy Spring Break Invitational,
Sierra Coward ran the fastest 200m of her career as part of the heptathlon, crossing in 26.27. She has 2,934 points and will close out heptathlon competition on Saturday.
Competition at both the Black and Gold Invitational and the IMG Academic Spring Break Invitational will conclude on Saturday.
