LAKELAND, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle men's golf team finished ninth (308-305-294=907) at the 2022 Sunshine State Conference Championship. The Eagles posted their lowest round score on day three with a 294. Play was held at the 7,161-yard, par-72 course at the Grasslands Golf and Country Club.
Over the three days of action, Embry-Riddle tied for the fifth-most holes parred in the competition (162). The par-5, 512-yard hole No. 4 was a favorite of the Blue and Gold all tournament long. All five Eagles managed to birdie the fourth hole and avoided recording any bogies.
Ian Aldarondo (79-76-69=24) had an impressive bounce-back effort with a 69 on Tuesday, his seventh sub-70 score of the year. His success was due to a team-high six birdies in the round with four coming on the front nine. The junior made program history as he finished the 2021-22 campaign with the lowest single-season stroke average ever recorded (72.8).
Pablo Robles (75-78-74=227) also posted his best score of the tournament in round three. He thrived on par-5 holes during the three rounds of play with an average stroke total of 4.75 (-3). Additionally, Robles tied for the 10th-most holes parred in the 55-player field (35).
Georgios Pachiadakis (79-74-75=228) parred 35 holes as well to earn a season-best finish of 42nd. His round-three 75 was his lowest final-round score since the McDonough Cup back on November 2021.
Two birdies in the opening three holes had
John Triplett (75-79-76=230) off to a strong start on Tuesday. He had a three-stroke improvement from round two to round three.
Michael Faringer (86-77-76=239) closed out the tournament well with his lowest round thanks to a two-under-par stretch from holes 11 to 18.
Barry (286-288-270=844) ran away from the field to claim its third SSC championship in six years and fifth in program history, which is tied for the second most among conference members. Florida Southern (294-284-279=857) finished 13 strokes back to place second while Nova Southeastern (292-288-280=860) finished third. Saint Leo (291-284-286=861) and Lynn (292-289-283=864) rounded out the top five.
There was a playoff for the individual title. Barry's A.J. Ewart (72-73-64) and Nicolas Quintero (71-69-69) as well as Saint Leo's Jake Nash (72-68-69) were all tied at 209 strokes through 54 holes. Nash was eliminated after the first playoff hole, but Ewart and Quintero battled until the latter birdied playoff hole No. 4.
The Eagles now must wait to see if the team or any individuals are selected to the NCAA II South Region tournament.
