Men’s Tennis Falls to Barry in SSC Semis

BRADENTON, Fla. – Sixth-ranked Embry-Riddle fell to third-ranked Barry 4-0 in the semifinal round of the Sunshine State Conference men's tennis tournament on Saturday. Barry (15-5) won the doubles point and earned wins at the third through fifth singles spots to advance to Sunday's championship match.
 
The contest at No. 2 doubles between ERAU's Luka Schneider and Michele Iftimie and Barry's Arnau Rodriguez and Alejandro Gallego was deadlocked at 4-4, but before it could be decided, the Bucs notched wins on courts one and three to grab a 1-0 advantage.
 
The Eagles' Juan Ortiz Couder won his first set against Alejandro Palacios and both players battled to a 6-6 tie in the second. Meanwhile, on court six, Fernando Alonso and Tim Buttner split sets to force a third. But before either match could continue, No. 43 Alessandro Giuliato topped Iftimie (6-0, 6-2), No. 72 Ignasi Forcano topped Alvaro Diaz Rodrigo (6-1, 6-4) and No. 66 Rodriguez topped Schneider (6-4, 7-5) to clinch the win.
 
Also 15-5 on the year, the Eagles will play in the SSC tournament third-place match against Lynn at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
