ERAU Trio Named to Academic All-District Team

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Embry-Riddle men's tennis student-athletes Juan Ortiz Couder and Alexis Guedy and women's lacrosse junior Elizabeth Ninesling garnered Academic All-District honors as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America on Thursday. The award recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom.
 
Thursday's award was the second CoSIDA Academic All-District honor for Ortiz Couder who has a 4.0 grade point average in pursuit of his PhD in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. He completed both his bachelor's and master's degrees in Software Engineering with a 3.78 undergraduate GPA. He has been named to the Sunshine State Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll and ITA Scholar-Athlete rosters five times each, was a two-time Eagles of Excellence scholarship recipient and was awarded the 2017-18 Steve & Vicky Ridder scholarship. On the court, Ortiz Couder is the most decorated student-athlete in ERAU men's tennis' NCAA II era. He was named the 2022 SSC Men's Tennis Athlete of the Year, was a first team selection in singles and a second team honoree in doubles and achieved a No. 6 singles ranking. His collegiate resume includes the 2018 ITA South Region doubles title, as well as being named an ITA All-American. He capped his final campaign wearing the Blue and Gold at 21-5 in singles and 19-9 in doubles play.
 
Guedy is pursuing an undergraduate degree in Aeronautical Science and carries a 3.67 cumulative GPA. Guedy's academic resume includes being a three-time Sunshine State Conference honor roll selection and a three-time ITA Scholar-Athlete. He was a first team All-Sunshine State Conference selection in doubles in 2021 and was a first team honoree in singles in 2022. Ranked 11th nationally in singles, he boasted a team-best 25-3 record in singles and a 17-7 doubles ledger this season.
 
Ninesling was a standout for an ERAU women's lacrosse team that had the best season in the program's short history. Academically, she graduated with a 3.50 GPA in Civil Engineering. On the field, she was an IWLCA and USA Lacrosse Magazine All-American and a two-time All-SSC selection and made program history on April 17 when she became the first ERAU women's lacrosse player to earn IWLCA National Player of the Week honors. She led the Eagles in draw controls (94), ground balls (48) and caused turnovers (30) to go with 46 points on 32 goals and 14 assists and reached the 100-point milestone in an upset of Florida Southern.
 
The trio advances to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot which will be announced in June.
