MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Members of the Embry-Riddle men's and women's tennis teams will compete in the ITA/NCAA II South Regional tournament this weekend. The tournament is being hosted by Auburn Montgomery and is one of eight NCAA II regional events taking place across the country.
 
The Embry-Riddle men open tournament play with doubles matches starting at 8:30 a.m. on Friday. Alexis Guedy and Michele Iftime will take on fourth-seeded Alejandro Gallego Ibanez and Arnau Rodriguez of Barry, while Fernando Alonso and Alvaro Diaz Rodrigo play Rafael Lima and Noe Hauschildt of Spring Hill.
 
Play in the 64-player singles bracket begins at 10:30 a.m. on Friday with Alonso facing sixth-seeded Alessandro Giuliato (Barry) and Diaz Rodrigo facing Christian Wedel (Valdosta State). Iftimie takes on West Alabama's Marcel Hornung at noon, and Guedy, seeded fifth in the tournament, will square off against Ghali Mensour (Saint Leo) in his tournament opener at 1:30 p.m.
 
Action for the ERAU women begins at 9:30 a.m. on Friday with the doubles teams of Itxaso Blanco and Carla Cabero del Hierro, and Jessica Christa Wira Hadipoernomo and Sabrina Ehrenfort taking the court against opponents yet to be determined.
 
The quartet will later take the court in singles action with Cabero del Hierro battling Mireia Turo (Montevallo) in the round of 128 and Wira Hadipoernomo facing No. 8 seed Estefania Garcia of Auburn Montgomery in the round of 64 at 12:30 p.m. Ehrenfort will take on Spring Hill's Emma Koch, and Blanco will go up against Valdosta State's Kayla Greco in round of 64 matches at 2 p.m.
 
Singles and doubles champions from the four-day tournament will earn an automatic berth to the 2022 ITA Cup, which is scheduled for October 12-16.
