GAINESVILLE, Fla. - It took only one race for freshman Jake Fritz to cement his name in the Embry-Riddle men's track and field record books as he set the program's indoor 800m record in his first collegiate competition. The Cape Coral, Florida, native ran a 1:53.40 at the Radd Sports Invitational on Friday, besting the previous record by nearly one second. Fellow Eagle Jacob D'Aleo followed closely behind with the second-fastest time in program history - a 1:54.36.
Adam Landen also set one of the fastest marks in the history of the program. His 400m time of 49.44 was the third-quickest ever recorded by a member of the Blue and Gold, just 0.21 off the record.
Heinrich Adriaanse added his own top-10 program performance thanks to a 4677-point total in the heptathlon, which was also a PR. It was the 10th-most points ever accumulated by an Eagle in the indoor event.
Graduate student Ajani McPherson set a personal best in the 60m by the smallest of margins. His 7.38 was an improvement of one one-hundredth of a second. Olympic bronze medalist and defending 200m world champion Noah Lyles made an appearance in the event.
In the 400m,
Vincent Brookins logged a 51.86 to set a new indoor PR.
Embry-Riddle's most successful event of the day was the long jump. The Eagles occupied three of the top four spots and five of the top eight. Jhaden Sydnor's new PR of 6.68m launched the junior into second place while sophomore Aidan Barnes used a jump of 6.24m to beat his previous personal high.
Seth Cribben also recorded an indoor PR in the field with a 10.85m throw in the shot put.
In the last event of the day, the 4x400m relay, McPherson, Landen, D'Aleo, and
Bradon Black posted the eighth-best time in program history, a 3:22.39, to win in the nine-team field.
Embry-Riddle returns to Gainesville next week, Jan. 26-27, for the Alachua County Collegiate Invitational.
