SAINT LEO, Fla. – The 10th-ranked Embry-Riddle men's tennis dropped a road match to Saint Leo, 7-0, in Sunshine State Conference play on Thursday. The loss drops the Eagles to 0-3 overall and 0-2 in the SSC, while the Lions are 2-0 overall and in the league.
The Lions claimed the doubles point by winning all three doubles matches. At No. 1 doubles, 14
th-ranked Vincent Thiel and Ghali Mensour held off the 22
nd-ranked duo of
Alexis Guedy and
Michele Iftimie. Ivan Marrero and Tao Bernal Castillo bested
Fernando Alonso and
Alvaro Diaz Rodrigo 6-4 on court two and Nicolas Bacella and Luis Iriarte topped
Lukas Schneider and
Luke Paschal 6-1 at No. 3.
The Lions' first singles point came on court six where Henrique Bertoli topped
Yoav Nir 6-3, 6-1. Martin Soukal followed with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Alonso on court two and Iriarte clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Schneider.
Next up for the Eagles is their first appearance at the ITA/NCAA II National Indoor Championship. ERAU will take on No. 2 Columbus State in the first match on Feb. 17.
