CLEVELAND, Tenn. – A small contingent of Embry-Riddle student-athletes traveled to the Lee Last Chance meet hosted by Lee University on Saturday in a final attempt to achieve an NCAA II qualifying standard. The day's competition featured five top-five finishes, a school record, and a personal record, as well as a pair of provisional qualifying marks.
Senior
Ukeyvia Beckwith continued her season's trend of improving with every meet as she set a personal record of 2:04.59 to win the 800m. That time is the third fastest in ERAU history and is the fastest 800m race run in NCAA II this season.
The Eagles earned top-five finishes in two field and two track events.
Madison Morris placed third in the discus with a throw of 43.01m (141-01) and Maxime Kirschner recorded the second-best javelin throw of her career with a toss of 42.05m (137-11) to take fourth. On the track,
Laura McBride placed fifth in the 400m hurdles in 1:03.08 and
Ariana Anderson finished fourth in the Steeplechase in 11:23.75.
In the only relay event of the meet, the 4x400m relay squad of Beckwith, McBride,
Morgan Dudley and
Nina Richardson teamed up for a record-breaking performance. The quartet crossed the line in first place in 3:44.77, bettering the ERAU record they set at the same meet 364 days ago. That time also met the provisional qualifying standard.
The ERAU women also picked up another win at a separate meet. Competing at the Bobcats Last Chance meet in Miami,
Sophia Gustely won the javelin with a throw of 40.12m (131-8).
Those who have hit provisional qualifying standards throughout the year, will learn if they will be included in the 2023 NCAA II Track & Field Championships lineup when the championship selections are announced on Tuesday.
