NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Embry-Riddle men's and women's track and field teams combined to place 12 individuals on the All-Academic Athlete listing as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Monday. Both programs were also recognized as All-Academic Teams in Monday's announcement with the women's team combining for a 3.325 GPA and the men's team compiling a 3.29 GPA.
To be eligible for All-Academic Team honors, the team's cumulative grade point average must be 3.0 or higher, while individuals must have completed at least 24 semester hours with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and must have achieved an automatic or provisional qualifying mark (individual or relay event) during either the indoor or outdoor season to be named an All-Academic Athlete.
All-Americans
Mikaela Miles and
Brooklynn Gould headlined the women's honorees. Miles placed third in the triple jump at both the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor National Championship events and carries a 3.701 GPA in aeronautical science. Gould earned a seventh-place finish in the pentathlon at Indoor nationals and capped her Embry-Riddle career with fifth place in the heptathlon at Outdoor nationals, all while earning a 3.811 GPA in aeronautical science.
Joining Miles and Gould on with academic honors were
Hailey Bruce (3.339, space operations), Maxime Kirschner (3.970, communications),
Taylor Roth (3.803, homeland security) and
Allegra Triner (4.00, aerospace engineering).
The men's team was led by
Ryan Flournoy who closed out his career wearing the Blue and Gold by placing fifth in the javelin at the Outdoor National Championships. Flournoy graduated with a 3.274 GPA in aviation business administration and is pursuing his MBA.
K'Anthony Benjamin (3.518, aeronautics),
Chase O'Connell (3.831 GPA, aerospace engineering) and
Conrad Prisby (4.0 GPA, MS electrical & computer engineering) were also repeat All-Academic Athletes, while
Mason Briggs (3.43 GPA, unmanned aircraft systems) and
Aleksander Schade (3.90 GPA, aerospace engineering) made their first appearance on the list.
