DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- The Embry-Riddle men's tennis team concluded play in the ERAU Open at the Crotty Tennis Complex on Sunday. The first tournament of the season is also the final tune-up before members of the squad compete in the 2023 ITA/NCAA South Regionals beginning on Friday.
Playing the Gold bracket, newcomer
Safar Rasulov led the Eagles with three singles wins over the course of the three-day tournament. The junior transfer opened the tournament with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Eastern Florida State College's Alex Achour and closed out the event with victories against EFSC's Jack Dixon (6-4, 6-3) and Flagler's Jacopo Denitto (5-3, ret.).
In doubles,
Fernando Alonso and
Alvaro Diaz Rodrigo were undefeated at 4-0. The duo defeated Denitto and Illian Borlee (6-4), Aly El Rafie and Asher Willenborg and Baptiste Mercier and Simon Malis (7-6(6)), as well as EFSC's Pavel Keko and Konstantin Kukaras (6-4).
The ITA South Regionals will be held at Florida Southern's Wynee Warden Tennis Complex in Lakeland, Sept. 22-25.
