LAKELAND, Fla. -- The Embry-Riddle men's tennis team's run through the main draw of the ITA/NCAA II South Regionals singles bracket ended in the quarterfinal round on Saturday. Two of the three Eagle players in the round of 16 notched wins to move on to the quarterfinals but neither was able to advance.
Freshman Josh Nuyts began the day with a 6-3, 6-1 defeat of Lynn's Gianmarco Amatiste in the round of 16, but he was unable to advance past the quarterfinal round falling to fifth-seeded Boruch Skierkier of Valdosta State 6-1, 6-1.
Fernando Alonso also notched a win in the round of 16, besting Spring Hill's Philip Bosman 6-3, 6-1, but, like Nuyts, he fell in the quarterfinals to Barry's Adam Lynch, 6-1, 6-3.
Competition in the doubles consolation bracket saw Nuyts and
Caelan Potts record an 8-5 win over Delta State's Tom Rance and Emiliano Elazarraraz to move on to the quarterfinals. They will face Lynn's Yaron Guberman and Gabriele Felline at 9 a.m. on Sunday.
