PHILADELPHIA – The Embry-Riddle women's rowing crew started off its 2024-25 season with a sweep of success on Saturday, as both the Freshmen 8s and Varsity 8s collected top-5 results at the 2024 Head of the Schuylkill, a 3,800m course downstream on the historic Schuylkill River.
"Our ladies had a strong showing at their first race of the season," head coach
Grant Maddock said. "Walking away having only lost to UPenn and UConn across all boats is a great starting point to build on as we continue to elevate the level of competition this year. It's right back to work this week before we head up to Princeton."
The Freshmen 8 boat, featuring
Lorelei Carter,
Sabrina Graves,
Elizabeth Loughry,
Emily Retty,

Alex Adams,
Lilly Avezzano,
Ella Wineriter, and coxswain Kaitlynn Paker. The Eagles rowed a very strong race, picking up third place. Their split to St. Joe's came at 3:32.2, and to Angels came at 9:10.6, before finishing with a time of 13:33.797, just four seconds off Division I UConn and 30 seconds behind the Ivy League's UPenn. ERAU's third place finish was strong enough to be the ninth-best boat among all collegiate women's boats on Saturday.
On the V8 side,
Shelby Ernst,
Briella Goldenberg,
Sarah Kinlocke,
Aria Moses,
Abby Webb,
Alexandria Fife-Winslow,
Soleil Edwards,

Jolee Paulk had a great mid-afternoon race. The Eagle boat took fourth place, fewer than 30-seconds behind the winning UPenn crew. ERAU finished the course in just 13:16.093 thanks to a fast start, reaching St. Joe's at 3:22.9, followed by Angels at 9:08.5. The Blue & Gold finished ahead of the likes of Delaware, Drexel, West Virginia, George Washington and La Salle.
With the success on the Schuylkill, the Eagles will turn their attention next to the Princeton Chase on Nov. 3 on Lake Carnegie in Princeton, N.J.
