Men's Soccer Places Five on Academic All-District Team

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Five members of the Embry-Riddle men's soccer team have been named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District team, recognizing their exceptional performance both on the field and in the classroom. The honorees are Sandro Henning, Gabriel Mentrup, George Patey, Tom Shepherd, and Anthony Velez

The CSC Academic All-District honors are awarded to student-athletes who excel in both academics and athletics. To be eligible, athletes must have a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher, have participated in at least 90% of the team's games or started in 66%, and be sophomores or above both athletically and academically. 

Henning earns this honor for the third consecutive year. A graduate student with a degree in computational mathematics, Henning is currently pursuing a master's degree in aviation finance and has a GPA of 3.90. On the field, Henning played in 12 games and started 10, scoring six goals and leading the team with six assists. 

Mentrup, a junior majoring in business, is a repeat honoree, making the Academic All-District team for the second straight year with a GPA of 3.81. Mentrup played in 15 games this season, contributing with a goal in the team's 3-0 victory over Eckerd. 

Patey, a senior studying Business Administration, also earned the honor for the third time with a GPA of 3.51. Patey played 808 minutes in 15 games, starting in eight of them. As a defender, he played a crucial role in securing shutouts against Florida Southern and Eckerd. 

Shepherd, a junior from Warrington, England, is a first-time Academic All-District honoree. He has a 3.57 GPA while studying Business Administration. Shepherd played 1,116 minutes in 15 games, starting 13. He scored a goal and recorded two assists, contributing four points to the team's success, including a goal in the 3-0 win against Eckerd. 

Velez, a senior majoring in Aeronautical Science and a 3.86 GPA, earned this honor for the second time. Velez played in all 15 games this season, registering his only assist in the team's opening goal of the game against Saint Leo. 

These five student-athletes continue to showcase the balance between academic excellence and athletic achievement, while at Embry-Riddle.
