HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Embry-Riddle women's cross country team wrapped up its postseason run on Saturday placing eighth at the NCAA II South Regionals. The Eagles jumped out to an early lead in the first portion of the 6K race, but tough competition from the field prevented ERAU from moving on to the NCAA Championships.
"I thought both teams really went for it today," head coach
Mike Rosolino said. "Both got out really well in the early race and tried to contend. We really gave it our best effort today."
ERAU finished fifth among Sunshine State Conference foes, while
Mackenzie Keller's 12th place finish was the fifth-fastest conference time at the Regionals. As she has done all season, Keller paced the Eagles with her time of 22:09.98, a mere two seconds off her 6K PR. With her top-25 placement, Keller earned the distinction of All-Region, and will find out Monday if she will make the trip to NCAA II Nationals in Sacramento.
Not far back finished
Taylor Roth with her 27th-place earning time of 22:55.79, more than 30 seconds faster than her 6K run at the SSC Championships back in late October. The rest of the Eagles finished in a pack.
Emily Tubbs (24:02.61 and
Allegra Triner (24:11.38) each set personal records on a 6K course on Saturday, finishing 52nd and 56th, respectively, with great hustle.
Alaina Rider (24:14.76),
Charlotte O'Brien (24:17.07) and
Kendall Mathis (24:46.86) were not long behind for the Eagles in Huntsville, all finishing near the top-half of the 108-runner field.
With the Regionals, the Eagles officially wrap up the 2024 cross country season, with all runners looking forward to the upcoming track and field season this spring.
