Men’s Golf Sees Second Round Suspended Due to Darkness at Saint Leo Invitational

SAINT LEO, Fla. - The Embry-Riddle men's golf team sits 19th at 28 over par after day one of the Saint Leo Invitational on Monday. Play was suspended during the second round due to darkness.

It's a massive field consisting of 20 teams, four of which are ranked inside the top 25 including No. 4 Lee, No. 10 Florida Southern, No. 14 Saint Leo, and No. 21 Nova Southeastern. All  programs competed at the par-72, 7,054-yard course at the Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club. 

Embry-Riddle flashed consistency during day one, recording a total of 101 pars, the second most by a team. 

Only one Eagle was able to complete his second round. Jacob Salazar (78-77=155) managed to get a full 36 holes in, ending his day with six straight pars. His 25 holes parred is tied for the second most in the field. 

Tiago Barni shot a team-best 76 in round one and is on track to beat that score in round two. His three birdies have him at just two over par on the round with a trio of holes remaining. 

After recording his best round (78) of the spring in round one, Michael Faringer was in the midst of a stout second round when play was halted. The Leesburg, Virginia native is even on the round with three holes left to play. Faringer excelled on par-5s, going two under par on such holes.

Edoardo Scialanga shot a 79 in round one and began his second round with a bang by birdying holes two through four.  

In his first tournament since joining the program over the winter break, Ryan Gear (79) made his presence known by registering a team-high five birdies with three coming in the 12 holes he completed in the second round.

Saint Leo (-18) is the top team heading into day two with Valdosta State (-11) and Keiser (-8) in second and third.

Keiser's Isac Wallin and Saint Leo's Adrian Soriano (-12) lead all other individuals.

The tournament concludes with the completion of the second round followed by third and final round on Tuesday beginning at 8:30 a.m.
