Men’s Golf Concludes Saint Leo Invitational

SAINT LEO, Fla. - The Embry-Riddle men's golf team finished 19th (311-297-290=898) at the Saint Leo Invitational after completing the second and third rounds on Tuesday. Round three's 290 score was the program's lowest round of the spring season. 

It was a massive field consisting of 20 teams, four of which were ranked inside the top 25 including No. 4 Lee, No. 10 Florida Southern, No. 14 Saint Leo, and No. 21 Nova Southeastern. All programs competed at the par-72, 7,054-yard course at the Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club. 

Embry-Riddle saw success on par-5s, scoring six under par on such holes over three rounds. 

After completing his second round early in the morning with an even par 72, Michael Faringer (78-72-70=220) had a heck of a third round performance, shooting his second below par round of the season and his lowest round of the spring (70). It began with five consecutive pars and a birdie and ended with three birdies over the last eight holes. 

The senior found most of his success on par-3s, going one under par overall to tie for the 11th best average in the 108-player field. Additionally, his 35 holes parred were tied for the 12th most by an individual. 

Tiago Barni (76-75-70=221) registered the most birdies on the team in the second and third rounds (five each), helping him earn a team-best 11 during the tournament. The Windermere, Florida product birdied his first two holes of the third round and shot one under par over his last five holes for his best round of the spring season and fifth sub-par score of the year.

Edoardo Scialanga (79-73-75=227) registered the team's only eagle during the two-day event. It came on the par-5, 549-yard hole No. 2. A final round shot total of 75 also helped the freshman pick up his lowest single-round score of the spring. 

Newcomer Ryan Gear (79-78-75=232) saved his best for last, shooting a 75 in the third round to cap off his first tournament as an Eagle. He tallied three birdies in a six-hole span from the ninth through the 14th holes of his round. 

Jacob Salazar (78-77-77=232) also accumulated three birdies during the final round. 

Saint Leo (277-280-276=833) soundly won its home tournament by 15 strokes over Kesier (280-287-281=848) with Barry (282-291-277=850) and Nova Southeastern (286-280-284=850) tied for third.

Keiser's Isac Wallin (65-67-67=199) finished as the top individual. 

The Eagles have over a month away from competition before participating in the Battle at the Shores from April 1-2 in Miami Shores, Florida.
