Daytona Beach, Fla. — Embry-Riddle women's rowing hosted its first and only home event of the season, sweeping all four races against the Barry Buccaneers in the Halifax River.
The Eagles have not lost a race to an SSC opponent this season, having won all four races against Rollins last week as well. Combined with the men also being perfect on that day, Eagles rowing is 12-for-12 against conference opposition.
Competing in the varsity eights, the boat of Shelby Ernst, Kristen Vigna, Abby Webb, Sofia Lorenzini, Soleil Edwards, Alexandra Weilert, Aria Moses, Sofia Glaser and Jadyn Harjung (coxswain) took first place in their first race, with their finish of 7:32.44 being 17.73 seconds ahead of Barry.
After that the varsity four race was held, where the boat of Alexandria Fife-Winslow, Reagan Hurt, Caterina Hart, Elise Dezotell and Laurel Grein (coxswain) also won. This time the margin was much higher, with the Eagles (8:54.29) finishing exactly two minutes ahead of the Buccaneers.
Racing again, the Embry-Riddle varsity eight boat fell behind, but a last-minute push propelled them into first place in a time of 7:29.66, just ahead of the 7:30.77 showing from the Buccaneers.
The second race for the varsity fours was a similarly-lopsided outcome, as ERAU completed the race in 8:58.66, compared to 10:57.99 for BU.
The Eagles will be back in action in six days, as they'll travel to face Stetson along with Jacksonville, Drake and Nova Southeastern on Saturday, March 16, at the Sandra Stetson Aquatic Center in DeLand.
