Women’s Rowing Competes in DeLand Double Duals

| By:
DELAND, Fla. — Embry-Riddle women's rowing suffered their first setback of the 2024 calendar year, winning only one race at the DeLand Double Duals.

Starting off in the varsity eights, the Eagles' boat of Shelby Ernst, Kristen Vigna, Soleil Edwards, Alexandria Fife-Winslow, Abby Webb, Alexandra Weilert, Aria Moses, Sofia Glaser and Jadyn Harjung (coxswain) finished in third place out of four boats with a time of 7:11.7. Taking first place was Jacksonville, reaching the finish line in 6:44.8.

In the second varsity eight race, the Eagles' boat of Sofia Lorenzini, Danielle DelGrippo, Briella Goldenberg, Reagan Hurt, Caterina Hart, Lilly Avezzano, Katie Braddick, Elise Dezotell and Laurel Grein (coxswain) finished third behind Jacksonville (7:14.2) and Wesleyan (7:21.0), finishing in a time of 7:40.6.

The evening brought the sole ERAU win of the day, as the Eagles won the varsity four race, as Ernst, Lorenzini, Edwards, Weilert and Harjung (coxswain) won the race in 7:53.9, beating out Jacksonville (8:04.5) and Drake (9:35.3).

The first evening varsity eights race was less successful, as Embry-Riddle's time of 7:33.6 placed them third behind Rollins and Stetson, marking the first time this season that the Eagles finished behind another Sunshine State Conference boat.

The evening was capped off by a two-boat matchup, as the Eagles took part in the second varsity eight matchup, with the same boat as the morning second varsity eight's race. Stetson scored its second victory in a row, as it finished the race in 7:29.2, exactly four seconds ahead of Embry-Riddle.

Next up for the Eagles is a trip down I-95 to Melbourne at Canal 54, as they'll be taking on Florida Tech along with Nova Southeastern next Saturday.
