MIAMI BEACH, Fla. - Edoardo Scialanga paced the way for the Embry-Riddle men's golf team as the Eagles sit 14th with 585 (297-288) strokes after day one of The Battle at the Shores. The freshman fired a pair of sub-70 rounds to hold down a spot inside the top five.

The 16-team field features three programs ranked inside the top 25 of the Clippd rankings, including No. 10 Florida Southern, No. 12 Saint Leo, and No. 13 Nova Southeastern. All teams completed two rounds of the par-71, 6,733-yard course at the Normandy Shores Golf Club.

Embry-Riddle was one of just two teams to record at least three eagles. Two belonged to Scialanga, and the third was a hole-in-one by Jacob Salazar on the par-3, 200-yard hole No. 17.

It was two incredible rounds for Scialanga (69-68=137). Round one saw the Rome, Italy native notch a team-high six birdies along with an eagle. Then in round two, he fired three birdies in a four-hole stretch and then eagled the same hole for the second round in a row. Scialanga became the first member of the Blue and Gold this season to pick up two consecutive sub-70 rounds.

He found success on a variety of holes. Scialanga tied for the sixth-best average on par-5s (4.17) and tied for the ninth-lowest on par-4s (3.95). Additionally, he was one of just four competitors to receive multiple eagles, and his 10 total birdies were tied for the third most in the field.

Tiago Barni (75-71=146) played consistently, racking up the most pars on the team with 22.

Jacob Salazar (77-70=147) played the best golf of his career as the junior's 70 in round two was a collegiate-low score. He came out firing by going six under par over the first eight holes. Salazar thrived on par-3s, averaging 2.75 strokes, which tied for the fourth-best mark in the event.

Ryan Gear (76-79=155) led the Blue and Gold in birdies in round two with five, and Aleksandar Abrashev (78-86=164) picked up a trio of below-par holes.

Barry (274-280=554) has a slim lead over Nova Southeastern (273-282=555) with Palm Beach Atlantic (278-282=560) and Saint Leo (272-288=560) in a tie for third.

The Sharks' Jorge Berea (66-68) is the top individual, with Scialanga just three shots back.

The third and final round is on Tuesday.
