DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - An event score of 0.8599 has the Embry-Riddle cheerleading team in 15th place in the 20-team Intermediate Coed Division II after the first day of the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) College Nationals. The Eagles are ahead of in-state foe Eckerd (0.7796). Routines on Thursday make up 25 percent of a team's score. The other 75 percent comes from Friday's performances.  Â
The Eagles received a raw score of 79.8667 but were handed a 2.75 in the deduction column. However, a large chunk of those deductions resulted from an injury that occurred roughly 40 seconds into ERAU's performance. Â
Arkansas - Fort Smith earned the highest raw score on day one with an 86.4, which converts to a 0.9575 event score after the deductions are calculated. Defending champion Lindenwood (85.9667 / 0.9427) held on to the second spot with Saginaw Valley State (84.7 / 0.9386) in third.Â
Only six of the 20 teams in the division were deduction-free in prelims.
Embry-Riddle is scheduled to compete at 2:07 p.m. in the Ocean Center on Friday, April 12 for its final performance of the season.Â
