Women's Track and Field Excels to Start Peach Belt Conference Outdoor Championships

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Embry-Riddle Women's Track and Field started off the Peach Belt Conference Outdoor Championship in dominant fashion, winning six conference championships on the first day of the two-day event at the Embry-Riddle Track & Field Complex.

Embry-Riddle has 142.5 points after day one, more than the rest of the field (127.5) combined.

In the 100m hurdles for the heptathlon, Sydney Cash and Leah Bartlett set personal records of 16.32 and 17.63 respectively. Cash (9.19) and Bartlett (8.59) set career bests in the shot put, and Bartlett also had a PR of 26.53 in the 200m. Brooklynn Gould currently leads the heptathlon field with 2,953 points followed by Cash (2,322 points) in second and Bartlett (2,075 points) in fourth.

Kirsten Rolle shattered her personal record in the hammer, beating out her previous best of 51.27 with a 56.20m toss to become conference champion.

In the pole vault, Piper Kimes won the conference title with a mark of 3.17m.

The Eagles had a podium sweep in the long jump, as Mikaela Miles took gold with a personal record 5.52m leap, followed by Gould (5.47m) with the silver, and Emma Sorenson (5.39m) with the bronze. Tanija Turner (5.30m) and Michala Daniels (5.22m) recorded career bests and Ciara Thomas set a personal outdoor best of 5.23m.

Cash and Helena Huyke set career records in the 100m hurdles preliminaries with times of 16.07 and 16.76. The duo, along with Dejah Saunders and Michala Daniels advanced to the finals on Tuesday.

The 400m preliminaries saw Laura McBride (57.22)and Nithya Chummar (1:00.92) set personal records to advance to Tuesday's final.

MacKenzie Keller took gold in the 1500m with a time of 4:37.15, while Taylor Roth set a career record of 4:46.20.

Gould took the high jump championship with a 1.54m leap.

In the 100m preliminaries, Shenya Patrice had the third-best time in Embry-Riddle history with 11.91. Olivia Worrell (12.16), Thomas (12.21) and Daniels 12.45 all set personal bests.

The Eagles are back in action tomorrow morning, beginning with the 5000m at 8:30 a.m. A total of 10 conference championships are up for grabs tomorrow.
