DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — The Embry-Riddle Women's Track and Field team continued its dominance in Peach Belt Conference Outdoor competition. After capturing the PBC's inaugural indoor championship in February, the Eagles won 13 individual titles on the way to claiming their sixth straight outdoor conference crown on Tuesday at the ERAU Track & Field Complex.
It was an absolutely dominant performances for the Eagles, as their point tally of 353.5 overwhelmed the field, with their closest competitor being Clayton State with 109 points.
The day began with
Abby Valley set a personal outdoor record in the 5000m with a time of 18:34.48.
Brooklynn Gould posted a dominant performance in the heptathlon, winning the event and setting a PBC Championship record of 4,903 points. Her score ranks as the third-best in program history and she now holds all top three spots in the event all-time.
Sydney Cash took the silver with 3,722 points and
Leah Bartlett, who ran a career outdoor best 2:40.30 in the 800m, won the bronze with 3,617 points.
For the second year in a row,
Mikaela Miles won gold in the triple jump with a 11.69m leap, while
Cerenity Daise took bronze with a personal-record 11.11m. Saunders also set a personal record of 10.74m, while
Michala Daniels set her best outdoor mark with 11.07m.
The Eagles scored 18 points in the shot put, led by
Madison Morris won the conference title with a 12.11m toss.
In the 4x100m, Embry-Riddle took the gold medal as
Ciara Thomas,
Michala Daniels,
Olivia Worrell and
Shenya Patrice ran the event in 47.14, the fifth-best time in ERAU history.
Dejah Saunders won gold in the 100m hurdles, while Daniels won silver with a personal record time of 15.56, with
Sydney Cash and Helena Hitler setting personal records of 15.85 and 16.77, respectively.
Laura McBride scored 18 points for the Blue & Gold with top-two finishes in the 400m and 400m hurdles. She took the silver medal in the 400m with a career-best time of 57.17 and moments later won her second conference title in the 400m hurdles in a time of 1:04.19.
Nithya Chummar's also registered at PR in the 400m time of 59.78, and she and McBride teamed up with Thomas and
Caroline Harris to win silver in the 4x400m relay in a time of 3:59.98.
The 100m dash saw Patrice win the conference championship in 11.94, which is the fourth-fastest time in Embry-Riddle history. Worrell (12.23) set a personal best while Thomas (12.33) tied her PR.
Patrice also had a strong showing in the 200m as her time of 24.79 is a career-best and the third best in program history, earning her a silver meda.
In the 800m,
Taylor Roth captured the silver medal with a career best time of 2:1308, while Harris got bronze in a time of 2:15.57.
Sophia Gustely won gold in the discus with a 40.13m toss, while
Barrett Cutshall set a personal record of 27.16m.
The Eagles also received numerous superlative awards from the Peach Belt Conference.
Cash was the Embry-Riddle selection to the 2024 All-Sportsmanship Team, awarded to an individual who best embodies the PBC core value of sportsmanship and fair play.
MacKenzie Keller was awarded the women's Elite 18 award, given to the student-athlete competing in the championship with the highest cumulative GPA.
Hailey Bruce was totaled 17 points to earn Freshman Field Athlete of the Year recognition, while Gould tallied 21 points to win Outstanding Field Athlete of the Year and overall Track & Field Athlete of the Year honors.
For the fifth time in six season the Eagles' head coach Mike Rosolino was voted the Women's Track and Field Coach of the Year.
The Eagles are back in action on May 10, as they will send separate contingents to the Lee Last Chance Meet in Cleveland, Tenn. and the UMO Last Chance Mount Olive, N.C.
