DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle tandem of
Itxaso Blanco and
Laura Cuesta Bret made Embry-Riddle women's tennis history on Tuesday becoming the first Eagles to earn ITA/NCAA II All-America honors in doubles.
Blanco and Cuesta Bret, who are both from Spain, teamed up for an 11-4 doubles ledger in dual match play in the spring. Their record featured eight wins against ranked opponents, including a 6-4 upset of Nova Southeastern's top-ranked duo of Natalie Espinal and Freya Davies on April 4. Blanco and Cuesta Bret also achieved the program's highest national ranking, closing out the year as the No. 4 doubles team in NCAA II.
To be eligible for All-America consideration, student-athlete must finish in the Top 20 of the final national rankings in singles and the Top 10 of the final national ranking in doubles.
