Men’s Golf Earns Much-Needed Third-Place Result at Loaded Citrus Intercollegiate

CHAMPIONSGATE, Fla. - It was a much-needed result for Embry-Riddle Men's Golf this week as the Eagles took third at the Citrus Intercollegiate on Tuesday. Embry-Riddle finished four over par to beat out three top-25 teams (No. 14 Nova Southeastern [+18], No. 15 Lynn [+22], and No. 21 Rollins [+28]) according to the latest coaches poll. The Blue and Gold also placed ahead of eight programs listed in the top-50 of the Clippd rankings. 

The result was Embry-Riddle's best-ever finish at that specific tournament and its lowest three-round score (868), which also ranked as the sixth-best team stroke total in program history.

Ryan Gear (-4, 6th) and Ian Ball (+2, 16th) led the team with top-20 results. Gear was just one stroke shy of breaking into the program's top-10 54-hole scores list as he recorded 212 shots.

  • That allowed the junior to post a season-low 212 stroke total
  • His sixth-place finish was a career-best result
  • Gear's 2.92 average on par 3s tied for the sixth-best mark among all competitors
  • He also ranked tied for seventh in par-4 stroke average (3.97) and was two under par on par 5s
  • Gear's 12 birdies led the team and were tied for the sixth-most out of 75 golfers
  • He also led the team in pars (35)

Ian Ball (73-71-74=218, +2) | T-16th
  • Ball capped off his fall with two birdies in the final four holes
  • His 218 shots were a season-best score
  • Ball performed well on par 4s by posting a 3.97 average, which tied for seventh in the tournament

Rafa Guerrero (76-73-71=220, +4) | T-25th
  • Guerrero saved the best for last, going one below par on Tuesday
  • He posted a team-high six birdies on the day
  • Guerrero was one under par on par 5s in the tournament

Edoardo Scialanga (72-77-76=225, +9) | T-39th
  • Scialanga tallied two birdies during the round, both of which came in the final five holes

Aleksandar Abrashev (79-73-73=225, +9) | T-39th
