Women’s Soccer Sees Record Number of Eagles Earn CSC Academic All-District

GREENWOOD, Ind. – Six Embry-Riddle women's soccer student-athletes received College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors on Tuesday, which is a new program record for the Eagles. Thea Nyberg has now been recognized on the All-District team for three consecutive seasons, while Anna Marisa Lara, Ida Zetterberg, Matilda Taylor, Olivia Gallo, and Lauryn Mateo all received this recognition for the first time in their carers.

The CSC Academic All-District program recognizes student-athlete for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. To be eligible for recognition, student-athletes must have a 3.50 cumulative grade point average and have played in at least 90% of their team's contests from the current season.

All six players earned All-SSC recognition earlier this season for their impact on the field and have been selected to advance to the national ballot, which will choose Academic All-America honorees, with those winners to be announced on December 16.

Nyberg, a senior majoring in Business Administration, holds a 3.93 cumulative GPA, and got a perfect 4.0 in her last semester. On the field, the defender led all outfield players in minutes played, on the field for 1610 out of a possible 1620, leading a back line which gave up less than one goal per game, and being named Second Team All-SSC.

Lara, a New York native, has got a 3.78 cumulative GPA, while majoring in Electrical Engineering. The junior had a career year on the field, recording a career-high in goals (5), assists (2), shots (36), and shots on goal (16). Her performance on the field led to her earning all-conference recognition for the first time, named to All-SSC First Team.

Zetterberg is in her second season with the Blue and Gold, playing all 37 games since joining, with 31 starts. She scored three goals this season, including the game-winning goal versus Lynn (Oct. 1), and added a pair of assists. The Business Administration major has got a perfect 4.0 cumulative GPA.

Taylor, from Sheffield, England, started all 18 games this season and earned Third Team All-SSC recognition, while picking up her first career assist this season. She holds a 3.70 cumulative GPA in Mechanical Engineering, after also earning a 4.0 GPA last semester. 

Gallo, who served as the team captain this season, earned a start in all 17 of her appearances and added a goal plus three assists as a defender. A three-time member of the SSC Commissioner's Honor Roll, the Swede holds a 3.87 cumulative GPA while majoring in Business Administration. 

Mateo continues to rack up awards this semester, being named 1st Team All-Conference and 2nd Team CCA All-Region in the past few weeks. The forward out of Orange Park, Florida, led the Eagles in nearly every offensive category this season including, goals (6), assists (3), shots (44), shots on goal (20), and game-winning goals (3).
