KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The United Soccer Coaches released their Scholar All-American teams this afternoon, with Lauryn Mateo and Thea Nyberg each earning recognition. This award is given to 26 players from around the country, after examining their performance both on the field and in the classroom.

Mateo and Nyberg were each named Second Team Scholar All-Americans, which is the most in Embry-Riddle program history. The only other Eagle to have won this award was Anita Agustsdottir, who was named to the First Team in 2021. It is the first such honor for both players from the United Soccer Coaches for their academic achievements. ERAU was one of only six schools to have two or more players earn Scholar All-America selections.

The awards continue to pile up for Mateo, who has now picked up six different awards since the end of the season. The midfielder also finishing tied for second in game-winning goals in the SSC, fourth in shots and tied for fifth in both goals and points within the conference. In the classroom, Mateo is majoring in Business Administration and has a 3.65 cumulative GPA.

Nyberg, who just finished her senior season, led the Eagles outfield players in minutes played this season with 1610 out of a possible 1620. She has now earned All-Region, Scholar All-Region, and Scholar All-America awards from the United Soccer Coaches organization. This season, ERAU conceded less than one goal per game and recorded six clean sheets throughout the season. The defender from Uppsala, Sweden, also earned Second Team All-Conference recognition.
