No. T-2 Women’s Rowing Chases Program’s First National Title This Weekend

| By:
WEST WINDSOR, N.J. - The Embry-Riddle women's rowing team practiced on Mercer Lake on Thursday to prepare for the NCAA II National Championship, which runs on Friday and Saturday. Making their fifth-consecutive appearance, the Eagles are eyeing the program's first national title after finishing third, fourth, fifth and sixth over the last four attempts. ERAU is in prime position to do so after moving up into a tie for the second spot in the most recent coaches' poll. If Embry-Riddle is able to come away with the national title, it would complete the championship trifecta as the Eagles already hold titles at the conference and state level this season.

Embry-Riddle is joined at the championship by No. 1 Cal Poly Humboldt, the defending national champions No. T-2 Western Washington, No. 4 Seattle Pacific, No. 5 Central Oklahoma and No. 7 Thomas Jefferson. The Eagles received the second seed in fours and the third seed in eights.

The action begins on Friday morning at 9:12 a.m. with the eights heats. The Eagles are in Heat 2 with Jefferson and Cal Poly Humboldt. Twenty-four minutes later, the Blue and Gold's four boat hits the water in Heat 2 at 9:36 a.m. Embry-Riddle is once again paired with Jefferson as well as Central Oklahoma.

Only the top boat in each heat advances directly to Final 1 on Saturday while the second and third finishers head to the repechages later in the afternoon. The eights repechage is first up at 4:12 p.m. followed by the fours repechage at 4:24 p.m. Only the top two boats move on to Final 1 while the last two are sent to Final 2.

Championship Saturday begins with the fours Final 2 at 11 a.m. and Final 1 at 11:12 a.m. Then the eights get underway with an 11:48 a.m. start for Final 2 before Final 1 at noon. The team with the most points wins the overall title.

In eights, points are handed out in increments of three. First receives 18 points, second earns 15 points and so on and so forth. However, the points drop down in fours to increments of two, with first place picking up 12 and second notching 10.

History would favor Embry-Riddle as each of the previous four years has produced a different national champion.
