Men’s Track and Field Opens Season with Three School Records

Gainesville, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle men's track and field team opened the indoor season in impressive fashion, appearing to be in midseason form at the Jimmy Carnes Invitational. The Eagles rewrote the program record book with three school records while also posting multiple NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field provisional qualifying marks.

Highlight Performances:
  • Derick Brown took down a 17-year-old school record in the 60-meter hurdles, clocking an 8.03. His performance is tied for No. 12 in NCAA Division II and meets the provisional standard. The previous record of 8.08 was held by Howard Walls since 2009.
  • Antonio Caito continued his dominance in the triple jump, breaking his own school record with a leap of 15.27 meters. The mark easily surpassed the 14.54-meter provisional standard and currently ranks second in NCAA Division II early in the season.
  • Luke Richardson made an immediate impact in his collegiate debut, setting a new school record in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.77 to place second overall. The true freshman ranks No. 11 nationally in Division II and also met the provisional standard.
  • Nicholas Scarangelli recorded a personal-best 8:12.4 in the 3,000-meter run to win the event and move up to second on the program's all-time list. His performance ranks No. 20 in NCAA Division II and qualifies provisionally.
  • Kobe Diggs posted a provisional qualifying mark in the triple jump with a leap of 14.63 meters, finishing fourth overall in the meet. His mark ranks No. 18 in NCAA Division II.
In addition to the record-breaking efforts, the Blue and Gold totaled 24-top-five finishes at the meet.
The Eagles return to action at the Alachua County Sports and Events Center in Gainesville, Florida, for the ACSEC Invite and Multi, scheduled for January 23-24.
