Softball Comes Up Empty-Handed Against No. 2 Spartans

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Embry-Riddle Softball dropped both games of a Saturday doubleheader to No. 2 Tampa, 13-1 and 1-0. Embry-Riddle was determined to upset the Spartans in game two as ERAU outhit UT 6-4 and starting pitcher Shelby Morse shut out the visitors through five innings. However, a late rally in the sixth foiled the Eagles' efforts.

HOW IT HAPPENED
1st Inning
  • In the first inning, Tampa took an early lead when Kreidler's double to left field brought Fantone home, making the score 1-0. 
2nd Inning
  • The game saw a significant shift in the second inning. 
  • The Spartans added three more runs to their tally with Winters' RBI double and Kreidler's two-RBI single.
3rd Inning
  • Embry-Riddle showed some momentum in the third inning when Katriana Bain hit a home run to center field, bringing the score to 4-1.
4th Inning
  • A couple more RBI hits tacked on another three runs for the visitors to make it 7-1.
6th Inning
  • The sixth inning marked a decisive moment as UT extended its lead with a six-run performance. 
  • Galhouse hit a three-run homer and Sulte followed with a two-run shot to trigger the run rule after the bottom of the sixth.

  • Oberkehr increased her hit streak to 25 games.
  • Emma Wood also extended her hit streak to 12-straight contests.
  • Bain hit her first home run of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
1st Inning
  • Embry-Riddle managed to place runners on base with Raissa Bianco and Wood each securing singles. 
  • However, the team was unable to capitalize, leaving two runners stranded and keeping the score tied at 0-0.
2nd Inning
  • Kinahan made an incredible play in right field as the senior made a sliding catch and threw a dart to third for Kelsey Kressler to tag out a runner trying to advance.
4th Inning
  • Embry-Riddle showed strength at the plate again with Bain and Isabelle Bonn both hitting singles up the middle. 
  • Despite this effort, the inning concluded with two runners left on base and the score still tied at zero.
6th Inning
  • The stalemate was broken when UT's Hammonds walked, stole second, and then scored on a single by Kreidler, putting the Spartans ahead 1-0.

  • Morse and company held the Spartans to just four hits, their second fewest in a game this year.
