St. Francis (Ill.) Overcomes 2-0 Deficit to Defeat Eagle Volleyball 3-2

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. --?The University of St. Francis (Ill.) overcame a 2-0 deficit to pull out a 3-2 victory against Embry-Riddle University in non-conference action Monday evening at the ICI Center.

After dropping the first game 30-15 and second 30-24, USF junior outside hitter Jill Boyce recorded seven of her 13 kills on the night, include two of the final three to?win a pivotal 31-29 third game.? Boyce added 17 digs and seven total blocks (four solos, three assists).?

St. Francis (20-8) carried the momentum into the fourth game and built a comfortable?nine-point cushion at 25-16.? ? ERAU (20-8) closed the gap to 26-21 and sophomore middle blocker Ashell Curtiss recorded three kills in the final?six points, however?the Eagles couldn't string together consecutive points.??Then St. Francis setter Erica Gustafson put the game away with her third kill in the game to prevail 30-24.? Gustafson finished with 13 kills and a .333 hitting percentage to go along with 38 assists and 14 digs.

The final game saw?the Lady Saints?jump out to a?7-3 lead, but Embry-Riddle battled back to tie the game at 9-9, 10-10 and 11-11.? However, ERAU committed consecutive attack errors to fall behind 13-11, then Gustafson made it 14-11.? ERAU's Janelle Marinos recorded her 20th kill of the evening to make it 14-12, but Sharon Yuska closed out the match with her nine kill of the match.?

Lisa Klein added 12 kills and Cassie Petroski finsiehd with seven kills and a match-high 27 digs.

Curtiss finished with a career-high 15 kills and Daniela Brazolino added 16 kills and 21 digs for the Eagles.? Nancy Salb recorded 21 digs and Marinos added 22.? The ERAU defense recorded a season-high 14.5 blocks (four solos and 21 block assists) but it wasn't enough to hold of St. Francis.
