No. 7 Eagles Score Twice in Win Over Thomas

Schultz headed home her third goal of 2012 against Thomas (Ga.)
THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The No. 7 Embry-Riddle women's soccer team used strong defense and a two-goal second half to beat Thomas at Ridgewood Park in Thomasville, Ga. on Wednesday night. With the win, the Eagles improve to 11-4 overall, 6-1 in Sun Conference play, while the Night Hawks fall to 7-5-1 overall, 2-4 in conference play.

Both teams played a possession based first-half, but it was Embry-RIddle who held an 8-3 advantage in shots and a 3-1 edge in shots on frame.

Valerie Obita just missed a prime scoring chance as she ran onto a pass from Katherine Ebbs but could only get one touch past Night Hawks goalie Sara-Ann Hartley and hit it just wide of frame. Ebbs also had a golden opportunity after being fouled just outside the penalty box, But Hartley was able to save the attempt resulting in a scoreless halftim tie.

The Eagles were finally able to break through in the 60th minute with a goal from Allison Schultz off a set piece from the right corner. Ebbs sent a bender into the penalty box, finding Schultz who headed the ball over Hartley's outstretched arms in the lower right corner of the net.

Helena Hansson scored the second goal for the Blue and Gold from 40 yards out off a free kick. The freshman defender sent her kick into the box and it slipped through Hartley's legs for the goal.

Embry-Riddle outshot Thomas 15-8 for the game, including an 8-5 edge in shots on frame. Lauren Gallant finished with four saves for the Eagles, while Hartley finished with six saves.

The women return to the Embry-Riddle Soccer Stadium for the first time in three weeks on Friday, Oct. 19, as the Eagles host Sun Conference North Division foe SCAD Savannah at 6 p.m.
