School Record Falls as Kirwa and Embry-Riddle Claim Sand Shark Invitational

BEAUFORT, S.C. - The 2012 regular season slate came to a fantastic conclusion on Saturday at the Sand Shark Invitational, hosted by South Carolina Beaufort. The Embry-Riddle Eagles posted 11 personal-records, including a school record time of 24:05.21 from senior Evans Kirwa, culminating in a first-place team finish in the 17-team event. Kirwa claimed his 16th individual meet title, ending his Embry-Riddle regular season career with 13 of the top-20 times in program history.

Sophomore Vincent Bett etched his named in the Eagle record books with a second-place finish in a time of 24:44.82, the 16th-fastest in school history. Alec Hernandez placed fifth in 25:09.41, while Zachary Kraus (13th - 25:47.80) and Jacob Dordick (26th - 26:20.72) rounded out the Embry-Riddle scorers with all five setting career-best marks.

Jamin Mays (26:56.31), Ryan Larson (26:56.44), Jason Riggs (27:16.97), Palmer Lintz (29:15.73), Dalton L'Heureux (29:24.54) and Trey Williams (31:39.12) also set personal-best times.

The Eagles finished 11 points better than second-place Spartanburg Methodist, while Emmanuel, SCAD Savannah and Webber International finished third through fifth respectively.

The Blue and Gold will take two weeks off to prepare for The Sun Championships on Nov. 3. Webber International is set to host the conference meet in Babson Park, Fla. with the winner of the meet earning an automatic berth to the NAIA National Championships in Fort Vancoiver, Wash. on Nov. 17.
