No. 8 Eagles Best Webber International 4-1

Kristin Sverrisdottir contributed a goal and an assist against Webber International
BABSON PARK, Fla. – The eighth-ranked Embry-Riddle women's soccer team earned its fourth Sun Conference win of the season with a 4-1 defeat of Webber International on Wednesday. Despite being terminated early because of inclement weather in the area, the game was considered complete having reached the 70-minute minimum. The Eagles improved to 9-4 overall and 4-1 in league play, while the Warriors fell to 5-3 and 3-2 in conference play.

The Eagles applied the offensive pressure from the first whistle, which led to a 12-6 shot advantage for the Blue and Gold in the first half. The Lady Warriors tested ERAU netminder Lauren Gallant four times in the first 45 minutes but Gallant was up to the challenge, turning back all four WIU attempts on frame.

It took the Eagles only seven minutes get their first goal of the afternoon. Krizzy Menez got the ball on the right side of the field and played it inside to Martine Olsen who took a touch, turned and fired a shot past WIU keeper Makenzie Vance to put the Eagles up 1-0.

Olsen increased the Eagle advantage to 2-0 six minutes later when she ran on to a ball played in by Janina Helwig, shook her defender and rifled a left-footed shot past Vance for her 11th goal of the season.

The Eagles' third goal came as a result of their fifth corner kick of the game. Just eight minutes after entering the contest, freshman Kristin Sversdottir took the corner and after a brief scramble in the box, the ball reached Menez on the near post and the senior tapped in her seventh goal of the year to extend the lead to 3-0.

Even with the three-goal advantage, the Eagles did not let up offensively and in the 26th minute, Ange Durston-Ryan took the ball down the right side and delivered a cross  to an unmarked Sverrisdottir for her second goal of the year, giving ERAU a 4-0 lead at the half.

The Warriors registered the only goal of the second half as Aubrie Strohmenger finished an attempt from about 25 yards out for WIU's only score in the 59th minute.

Just 12 minutes later, officials spotted lightning in the area and when the bad weather persisted, they eventually called the game, resulting in the 4-1 victory for the Blue and Gold.

The Eagles will have a one-day break before getting back on the road on Sunday when they will take on Warner at 3 p.m. in Lake Wales
