Kirwa Wins OUC Half Marathon

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Embry-Riddle senior Evans Kirwa wrapped up the fall racing season and began his professional career as the winner of the OUC Orlando Half Marathon on Saturday. Kirwa, who concluded his career with ERAU's cross country and track teams as the most accomplished harrier in program history this fall, completed the 13.1 mile course through the streets of downtown Orlando in 1:09.06.

Alec Hernandez, Vincent Bett, Jacob Dordick, Ryan Larson and Jason Riggs also competed in Saturday's race. Hernandez placed seventh overall in 1:13.20, followed by Bett who was eighth in 1:13.40 and Dordick who finished 10th in 1:13.55. The trio qualified for the NAIA National Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the marathon by hitting the “B” qualifying standard of 1:15.00.

Larson missed the cut by just 41 seconds, finishing 14th in 1:15.41. Riggs was just a few steps behind Larson, crossing the finish line in 1:15.58 for 16th overall.

The only woman competing for the Eagles on Saturday was sophomore Aleiyah Ross who turned in a time of 1:39.38 for fifth place in her age division and 39th place overall.

The Eagles' track and field teams will compete in their first meet of 2013 on Jan. 17 when they travel to Gainesville, Fla. to compete in the Gator Invitational.
