Buccaneers Hold Off Eagles 6-3

Patrick Besch earned a win at No. 2 singles against Barry
MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – NAIA No.2 Embry-Riddle and NCAA II No. 2 Barry had something other than their No. 2 national ranking in common going into Sunday's men's tennis match; they both finished as national runners-up in their respective divisions in 2011. On Sunday, it was the Buccaneers who used their home court advantage to top the Eagles 6-3.

Fabian Groetsch and Ollie Lemaitre scored the first point for the Buccaneers with an 8-3 win over Peter Francis and Simon Felix at No. 3 doubles. Chris Freeman and JR Leonik drew the match level with an 8-5 defeat of Romain Costamagna and Leonel Vivas at the second doubles spot.  The match at No. 1 doubles was tightly contested and in the end it was Marco Mokrzycki and Daniel Schmidt who edged Adrian Bayh and Patrick Besch 9-7 to put Barry up 2-1.

Vivas downed Leonik 6-3, 6-1 at No. 6 singles and Kevin Seilmann held off Francis 6-2, 7-6 (5) at the fifth spot to increase the Barry advantage to 4-1. The Eagles got wins at No. 2 singles, where Besch defeated Schmidt 6-1, 6-3 and at No. 4 where Felix got the better of Groetsch, 6-3, 7-5, but Costamagna topped Bayh 6-3, 6-4 and NCAA II No. 8 Mokrzycki pulled out a three-setter (6-4, 3-6, 6-3) over Freeman to seal the Buccaneers' win.

The Eagles face their second NCAA II Top-10 foe on Wednesday when they travel to Winter Park to take on eighth-ranked Rollins.
