Eagles Earn 8-1 Win Over Midwestern State

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The third-ranked Embry-Riddle women's tennis team won three doubles and five singles matches on the way to an 8-1 victory over Midwestern State on Monday. The Eagles improved to 9-1 on the year, while the Mustangs, coached by former ERAU head coach Scott Linn, moved to 5-5 overall.

The Eagles' first point came at No. 1 doubles where fourth-ranked Yi Ching Chen and Josefine Strom topped Lindsey Holcomb and Sarita Adhikary 8-2. Rocio Frej Vitalle and Ekaterina Kamendova followed with an 8-6 edge over Rozike Van Reisburg and Lindsey Buenger at No. 2 and Kristina Marova and Paola Montero withstood a late rally by Taylor Coffman and Kendra Casey to complete the Eagles' doubles sweep with an 8-4 decision.

NAIA No. 5 Frej Vitalle dropped just two games in her straight set (6-2, 6-0) win over Holcomb on the second court and Kamendova scored the clincher by downing Adhikary 6-3, 6-3 at No. 3. Chen (6-1, 6-1), Marova (6-1, 7-5) and Montero (6-3, 6-2) registered straight set wins against Reisburg, Coffman and Buenger, respectively, but Casey collected the Mustangs' only point of the day, coming from behind to top Strom 4-6, 6-1, 10-2.

The Eagles will be back in action on Tuesday when the host Cleveland State at 3:30 p.m. in a match that was rescheduled due to bad weather.
