ERAU Men Blank Bison 9-0

Patrick Besch clinched the Eagles' win over OBU at No. 2 singles
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The second-ranked Embry-Riddle (11-1) men's tennis team earned its seventh shutout of the 2012 season with a 9-0 defeat of Oklahoma Baptist (2-6), Monday at the Crotty Tennis Complex. Monday's match served as the Eagles' final tune-up before their showdown against third-ranked Oklahoma Christian at 10 a.m. on Wednesday.

The Eagles' first point of the day came at No.3 doubles where 22-ranked Simon Felix and Peter Francis downed Kolt Byerly and Jacob Albritton 8-1. The 10th-ranked pair of Christ Freeman and J.R. Leonik followed with an 8-3 decision against Francisco Da Silva and Agustin Janssen at the second spot to put the Blue and Gold up 2-0.

While their teammates completed their matches in under an hour, it took Patrick Besch and David Spennare, playing together for the first time this season, an hour and a half to finish their contest at No. 1 doubles against Marco Carvajal and Dario Macanovic. Both pairs took turns holding on to a one-point lead and eventually the OBU tandem broke Besch and Spennare to go up 7-6. The ERAU duo fought back to tie the score at 7-7 and after falling behind 8-7, tied it again at 8-8 to force a tiebreaker. The tiebreaker was a back and forth affair that saw Besch and Spennare emerge with a 9-7 edge to complete the Eagles' doubles sweep.

Felix collected the first singles point with a 6-2, 6-3 decision against Da Silva at No. 3 and Besch clinched the win with a 6-2, 6-0 defeat of Macanovic at the second spot.

With the match in hand, the Eagles rolled off four more singles wins. Freeman downed Carvajal 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1, Francis topped Byerly 6-3, 6-1 at No. 4, Spennare bested Janssen at No. 5 and Leonik closed out the match with a shutout of Albritton at No. 6.
