AT A GLANCE
Embry-Riddle hosts Southeastern in a Sun Conference game featuring teams appearing to go in opposite directions. The Eagles, winners of 14 straight, are 3-0 in conference play, while the Fire has lost three of its last four and is only 1-3 in league action. Southeastern won their first-ever game at the ICI Center last year when they beat the Eagles 89-82 in the first of two regular-season meetings. However, the Blue and Gold got some revenge in the postseason, ending SEU's season with a 93-87 upset in The Sun Conference tournament quarterfinals.
WHAT TO WATCH FOR
Embry-Riddle will look to pressure a Fire team that averages almost 16 turnovers per game both in the post and the perimeter. Embry-Riddle's offensive balance has proved to be tough for opposing teams to handle through the first 17 games of the season as eight different Eagles have led the team in scoring. Southeastern is without its leading scorer and rebounder in Povilas Gaidys.
SCOUTING SOUTHEASTERN
Guard Jordan Talley is the Fire's current leading scorer with 12.4 points per contest. He shoots better than 41 percent from beyond the arc (26-for-63) and is a 75 percent free throw shooter. Talley, combined with point guard Patrick Ryan will provide an experienced backcourt for Southeastern, a team looking for a spark after dropping three of their last four contests.
LAST GAME: Eagles Pull Away from Wildcats for 81-72 Road Victory
NORTH MIAMI, Fla. - The NAIA II No. 4 Embry-Riddle Eagles extended their winning streak to 14 with a solid 81-71 win on the road against Sun Conference foe Johnson & Wales on Saturday night. The Eagles improve to 16-1 overall and 3-0 in league play while the Wildcats slip to 9-7 and 1-3.
STREAKING
After Saturday's victory over Johnson & Wales, the Eagles hold a 14-game winning streak, the third-longest such streak in program history. Embry-Riddle has twice won 20 consecutive games, once spanning two seasons (Feb. 22, 2000 - Dec, 7, 2000), and the other all in one athletic year (Nov. 19, 2005 - Jan. 28, 2006). The Blue and Gold has also put together win streaks of 15 (Nov. 21, 2008 - Jan. 21, 2009) and 14 (Nov. 27, 2009 - Jan. 22, 2010 and Dec. 19, 2000 - Feb. 1, 2001). The Eagles currently own the longest-active winning streak in NAIA II men's basketball.
#1 PRESSURE...?
When the rankings come out on Tuesday evening, the Eagles have a high probability of receiving a No. 1 ranking by the NAIA II coaches. It would be the 18th time the Blue and Gold has been ranked at the top since 1999-2000, the most of any NAIA II teams.
IN SEARCH OF 600
Sophomore DeForest Carter needs just eight points to reach 600 for his two-year Eagle career. Carter scored 367 points as a freshman and has 225 points this season. He is the current career leading scorer on the Eagles' roster.
TRIPLE DIGITS? CHECK, CHECK, CHECK, CHECK, CHECK AND CHECK
The Blue and Gold have six players that have reached the century mark offensively, including DeForest Carter, Cesar Pastrana, Jason Powell, Rico Saldana, Daniel Mondragon and Billy Serle.
QUARTER CENTURY OF EAGLE BASKETBALL
The 2012-13 season marks the 25th edition of Eagle basketball and Embry-Riddle athletics overall. The basketball, baseball, men's tennis and men's golf programs began in the 1988-89 academic year and were the foundation the rest of the department was built upon.
Embry-Riddle is 571-235 in 24 seasons, capturing eight conference regular season titles, nine conference tournament titles, claiming 17 NAIA All-America honors, 15 Honorable Mention All-American honors and reaching the pinnacle of NAIA basketball in 2000 when the Eagles won the NAIA II National Championship.
