Obita scored her 66th career goal to break the ERAU record.

AVE MARIA, Fla. –The NAIA fifth ranked Embry-Riddle women's soccer team beat Ave Maria 6-0 on Thursday evening in Ave Maria, Fla. Six different Eagles scored the goals to contribute to the win. Senior forward Valerie Obita scored a goal in the first half to break the Embry-Riddle All-Time goals record with 66 career goals.

The Eagles came out firing against the Lady Gyrenes, Obita recorded the first shot on goal of the night in the second minute resulting in Ave Maria goalie Francesca Singleton's first save of the game.

Singleton and the Lady Gyrenes defense kept the Eagles off the scoreboard until the 20th minute. Katherine Ebbs sailed a corner kick towards the goal, Singleton blocked the ball but couldn't gain control then Johanna Karlsson gained control of the ball right in front of the goal. Karlsson took a look at the goal to make her shot count, and she made a smart shot to the low left corner of the goal past Singleton to put the Eagles up 1-0.

The goal was Karlsson's first career goal, and she sparked the Blue and Gold's offensive attack. Less than a minute later, Obita dribbled the ball down the middle and played Isabelle Haaranen just to the right of the box, Haaranen beat a defender and shot the ball past Singleton and found the back of the net to put the Eagles up 2-0.

The Blue and Gold had the Lady Gyrenes pinned to their side of the pitch most of the first half, and in the 38th minute the Eagles found the net again. When Ebbs took a free kick about 30 yards from the goal, the ball bounced around a little bit before Obita took control and fired a shot past the reach of Singleton. The goal put the Eagles up 3-0, marking Obita's 12th goal of the season and the ERAU record 66th career goal.

The Eagles entered the second half leading Ave Maria 3-0. The Blue and Gold recorded six shots in the first 20 minutes of the second half. The Eagles found the net again in the 72nd minute, when Kristin Sverrisdottir took the ball down the right side and dribbled into the box around an Ave Maria defender for a one-on-one with the goalie. Sverrisdottir fired the ball to the left corner just past the outstretched Singelton to put the Eagles up 4-0.

Embry-Riddle had control most of the second half, but the Lady Gyrenes had an impressive defensive showing. With five minutes to go in the game Aimee Kasmally took the ball down the right side and found Gabriela Casariego in the middle, she shot a hard ball towards the goal but Singleton blocked it. Caitlyn Rymarchyk was there after the deflection and she shot the ball in the low left side past Singleton to put the Eagles up 5-0.

With just under two minutes left in the game the Eagles kept the scores coming, Janina Helwig took the ball down the left side and fed the ball to Dana Robins in the middle she shot the ball hard in the upper right corner to record her first career goal and solidify the Eagles 6-0 win.

"I appreciated how Frank (Frostino) encouraged his team to come out and play," ERAU Head Coach Samantha Bohon said. "It forced us to be more focused and precise.  It was exciting to see three players earn their first career goals: Dana Robins, Johanna Karlsson, and Caitlyn Rymarchyk.  It's been a long week of class, so I was really pleased to see the ladies find a way to still bring energy and commitment today.  All in all, it was a good day."

Embry-Riddle next will travel to Southeastern on Saturday for a matchup at 7 p.m. in Lakeland, Fla.
